Volta Polska has signed a partnership agreement with Łódź Airport for a 12 MWp photovoltaic farm at the airport. The project involves the installation of approximately 20,000 solar panels and is part of the airport’s infrastructure decarbonization strategy. Part of the farm’s production will be used by Łódź Airport, increasing the share of renewable energy and reducing energy consumption from the grid. Volta Polska is responsible for the development, financing, construction, and operation of the installation.
Volta Polska, a subsidiary of the Volta Group, has signed a partnership agreement with Łódź Airport for a 12 MWp photovoltaic farm to be built on the airport grounds. The project involves the installation of approximately 20,000 photovoltaic modules across nearly 13 hectares and forms part of the airport’s decarbonization strategy. As a signatory of the NetZero commitments and the Toulouse Declaration, the airport aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
The planned power plant is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 8,000 tons per year. Part of the installation will be delivered under the Solar as a Service model, with an estimated annual production of around 400 MWh. This energy will be used to cover the airport’s own needs, increasing the share of renewable energy in its mix and reducing reliance on the grid.
Volta Polska is fully responsible for the project’s development – from the preparatory and financing stages, through construction, to ongoing operation. Acting as an independent power producer (IPP), the company retains operational control over the asset, ensuring its long-term stability. The project represents another example of renewable energy infrastructure implementation for the public and transport sectors, supporting the decarbonization of one of the most emissions-intensive and challenging sectors – aviation.
“This project represents a significant step forward for Łódź Airport and the city, offering a concrete and immediate solution to the growing demand for clean energy. To win the competitive bid, Volta Group relied on its local team, its historical expertise, and experience in similar projects, including the construction of a 900 kWp rooftop photovoltaic system connected to a 900 kWh storage facility at Mayotte Airport in 2020,” says Pierrick Morier, co-founder and President of Volta Group.
“We continue to launch and successfully implement significant projects, which is particularly important in Poland, an economy that still relies heavily on carbon-intensive energy sources. This is also true of the aviation sector, which is among the most carbon-intensive sectors,” adds Stephane Rauber, Managing Partner at Volta Polska.
